Antique White Linen Cutwork Embroidered Swiss Appenzell Tablecloth Esso Oil Provenance
This unbelievable gorgeous antique Swiss Appenzell tablecloth,( or it could also be a bed spread) measures 72 x 100 and has the most intricate hand work I've seen. The cloth is made up of loads of open work and hand crocheted tape lace with filet crochet lace and white-work embroidery, as well as cut-work. It also has a lot of Appenzell openwork. It's medium weight linen. In excellent condition, not a stain and no holes or flaws. Hand done. It looks like it was never used.
This is one many pieces that were purchased by L.V. Collings, Vice-President and General Counsel, of the Standard Vacuum Oil company (now ESSO) in the 1950's. He and his wife traveled extensively in the Orient and Asia, bringing back many antiques and textiles.
