Vintage Pale Pink Titanic Era Cape Wool/Silver Metal Soutache S.Ungar Label RARE
With the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic recently in the news, here's a great wearable vintage piece that should fit just about any size! The details are pretty fantastic. It consists of pale pink smooth wool, it feels almost like cashmere; it has an inner vest in the front that closes with hooks and eyes.
It is embellished with silver metallic soutache braid which also decorates the huge pointed collar, and the many buttons on front of the vest and on either side of the unusual pleats on the sides.
It is completely lined in luxurious beige silk. Surprise inside- a beautifully worked security ( or a purse) pocket with embroidered net lace bow trimming it. The label is S.Ungar, Karlsbad.
Marked Size: none but it is a one size type garment.
Shoulder: 19”
Vest Front Length: 20.5”
Longest Length (shoulder to hem): 48”
CONDITION: Excellent overall, though a fair bit of moth chews, no holes. They don't really show unless you look very close. I did have it dry cleaned.
Here is some information on the label:
S. Ungar was a German and Austrian clothing company, with branches in Vienna, Berlin and Karlsbad. The company was founded in 1905, and by 1907 there was a branch in Berlin . The Berlin branch was located at 15 Unter den Linden, and the Vienna shop was at Kohlmarkt 20. Both were prestigious addresses. The company closed in 1938, because the owner was Jewish, and it was becoming increasingly difficult for them to conduct business.
