$ 399.00
RARE Antique 1890s Swimsuit Dress Ladies 2 PC Cotton John Wanamaker Large- the provenance is that it was supposed to have belonged to Theresa Staneska Bissman, and was worn in the early 1900s
at the Canoe Club ( WIlliamsport Penna.) located on the South end of Maynard St. Bridge.Membership was expensive.
An amazing find, this antique swimsuit is confirmed the 1890s-1900 by old photos and research. It's a wonderful example as it is complete and was not worn much at all. I am not sure it was ever washed as the cotton is crisp as the day it was made. There are some tiny holes here and there though.
The swimwear consists of a 1 piece bloomer's outfit with a button front. Then the skirt fits over the top. The skirt had an added piece to make the waist bigger, but the regular buttonhole is still there. The whole thing has stitched down braid in white to accent and give it that nautical look.
