Antique Chinese Robe Silk Damask Mauve Provenance ESSO
Stunning damask pattern of weeping flowers and vines make up the straight panels of this beautiful antique dressing gown. It was created in the Victorian period, evident by the style of the gown and the incredible silk damask pattern.
It closes across the front and to the side with handmade frogs. It has long side slits and has an inside pocket on the inner flap; lined in changeable turquoise to green silk. ( this doesn't show up well in photo) You could add sleeve panels to make this really beautiful.
This was brought back on one of many business trips by the L.V. Collings, Vice-President and General Counsel, of the Standard Vacuum Oil company (now ESSO) in the 1950's. He and his wife traveled extensively in the Orient and Asia, bringing back many antiques and textiles.
