Vintage French Hand Embroidered Smocked Linen Dress Paris 1920s Blue / White
A beautifully worked piece of vintage handmade wearable art, this piece has a some interesting provenance I'll mention later in the description.
The dress is made of natural linen, with blue embroidery un some very interesting interlocking geometric designs.
The front and back are identical and are heavily hand smocked in the center. The sleeves have smocking near the cuff, which closes with a MOP button. It has two flap pockets, embroidered and closing with MOP buttons. It quite loose fitting and unlined. There is a self belt.
Now, the provenance. This information was given to me when I purchased it in Canada:
Elspeth Hall, of Wychwood Park, had an antique store in the Annex in the 1960's and gave me her artists smock in 1973, telling me that the mother in the family that she lived with in Paris in the 1920s made one for her and another for her own daughter both studying in Paris at the time.
