Vintage Couture Evening Gown / Coat Pale Gold Silk Brocade 1960 38-29-38
Think - a "Pan Am" era cocktail party! This gorgeous hourglass figure shaping vintage evening gown features princess darts for great fit and a low scoop back with metal zip closure.
The bottom of the skirt is very unique that fits tight at the front and tapered at the ankles and the back has a fishtail pleat and is completely lined in silk. The fabric is the real jewel, being a silk metallic brocade- very expensive in itself, not to mention it is made into a fantastic evening gown!
It has no label amazingly but you can tell that it is probably couture by the way it is constructed. The jacket is also very unique. it does not close in the front but instead curves away from the body being shorter in front with a longer straight back. it has a high collar, 3/4 sleeves and is completely lined.
This was custom made for Sonja Loew, a Czech who married theater magnate E. M. Loew and was fabulous for her generosity, outrageous outfits, and indecipherable accent. She is sitting next to Zsa Zsa Gabor in this photo.
